The Government of Tamil Nadu State has initiated an impactful Housing initiative known as Kalaignar Kanavu Illam Thittam, in which the Government aims to provide Housing Opportunities for all the citizens who come from Below Poverty Line (BPL) across Tamil Nadu State. Under this scheme, the Authorities aim to construct 8 Lakh Residential Concrete houses in Rural Areas within a time period of 6 years. This initiative is specially launched for the homeless citizens living in Slum areas in Kaccha Houses so that the Government will provide them a Pucca House to reside. About Kalaignar Kanavu Illam Scheme
The Finance Minister of Tamil Nadu State, Mr. Thangam Thennarasu, has announced this groundbreaking housing initiative named Kalaignar Kanavu Illam Scheme, in which the Authorities aim to provide residential houses to all the poor citizens belonging to the Below Poverty Line (BPL). According to this scheme, the Government aims to make Slum Free Tamil Nadu by 2030 by constructing at least 8 Lakh Concrete Houses in Rural Areas over the time period of 6 Years in Tamil Nadu State. All the eligible citizens will get Concrete houses, and those who have their land will get financial help to construct their houses.
Each House constructed by the Government will have an area of 360 sq. ft, including a Living Room, Kitchen, Washroom, Bedroom, Tiled Roof, and Water & Power Connections. Each House will cost INR 3.5 Lakh per House. The Government has allocated a total budget of INR 35,00 Crore for the implementation of this scheme.

The main purpose behind this Kalaignar Kanavu Illam Scheme is to make Hut Free Tamil Nadu by 2030. According to this scheme, the Government aims to provide a residential concrete house for all the eligible citizens belonging to the Below Poverty Line (BPL. The Government aims to construct at least 8 Lakh concrete residential houses in 6 Years. With the help of this scheme, all the poor citizens will be able to get an opportunity to have a roof over their heads by getting their desired homes.
The house constructed by the Government will have an area of 360 square feet. Along with all the basic amenities such as a Toilet, a Bedroom, a Kitchen, Tiled Roof, electricity, and a water Connection.
