The Government of Karnataka has recently launched a food security initiative known as the Anna Bhagya Scheme, in which the Government aims to provide food & nutritional support along with financial assistance to all the citizens belonging to the Economically Weaker Sections of the state. Under this initiative, the Government will provide 10kg of Rice monthly, along with the financial help of INR 170 to all the eligible, financially weaker people across the state.

This initiative is aimed at targeting citizens from Below the Poverty Line (BPL) and Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) cardholders. All those citizens who come from Economically Weaker Sections and wish to get benefits through this initiative can simply visit the Official Website and fill out the application form online.

About Karnataka Anna Bhagya Scheme

This Honourable Chief Minister of Karnataka State, Mr. Siddaramaiah, launched this food security program named Karnataka Anna Bhagya Scheme in 2013 under the Congress Government in Karnataka State. Under this initiative, the Government aims to provide 5 kg of Rice monthly along with financial assistance of INR 170 to all the citizens belonging to the Economically Weaker Sections of the state. As of the 2025 Feb update, the Government has replaced the financial assistance with another 5 Kg of Rice, so the total quantity of rice provided monthly will be increased to 10 kg of rice monthly provided to all the beneficiaries under this scheme.

As per the reports stated by the government, the Annual Expenditure for this scheme is INR 30,000 Crore to run this scheme statewide. This initiative will mainly target those citizens who come below the Poverty Line (BPL) & Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) Beneficiaries.

Purpose of the Anna Bhagya Scheme

The Main purpose behind this Anna Bhagya Scheme is to provide financial help along with Monthly food and nutritional support to all the citizens belonging to the Economically Weaker Sections of the state. According to this scheme, the government will provide 10kg of Rice monthly to all the citizens from financially weaker households across the state. With the help of this initiative, citizens from financially weak households will be able to access proper nutrition, and they will no longer have to worry about the normal expenses of food items. As per the reports stated by the Government, around 25 Lakh citizens will get benefits through this initiative.
